I think the one good thing you can keep in mind is that no matter what you learn, a lot of the principles will carry from one piece of software to another. I've heard FCX has changed a lot since then (for the better) but I haven't messed with it yet. Final Cut Studio was the thing before X came out. Adobe has several industry standard programs (after effects, photoshop, illustrator), so being able to go back and forth between them pretty easily is very nice. I've been working as an editor in Seattle for about 10 years and almost 100% of my work has been in Premiere. (I imagine NYC might also have a decent amount of Avid going on.) Avid still has a big foothold in LA so if you're doing LA-based work then it would be good to know. You might even find that what's popular varies by location. You think LA, NYC, Chicago and Atlanta offset Iowa Kentucky Montana and Maine enough to make the entire pro US editing industry big enough to matter to anyone - if you restrict it to only the "pros" that you might approve? As a publicly held company, the Apple lawyers and the SEC would have a problem with them making false statements regarding sales, so it's pretty damn safe to take that number to the bank.įact 2: The US Bureau of Labor Statistics covering Professional Film, Video Editors and Camera Operators for the whole of the US (2014 stats) was a shockingly puny 58,000!
